It’s the most wonderful time of the year! For many, Christmas is a time for family, enjoying good food and exchanging presents with loved ones. For many, it's a time for children - to see their excitement build as the big day approaches and to watch their faces as they unwrap their presents. In Ghana, Christmas is much the same. It's an opportunity to spend time with the family and to watch the children's excitement build. It's a time to reflect and be grateful for what the year has provided.
But for many of the families who have been supported by our programme in Ghana over the past few years, Christmas is a milestone. Hearing of their child’s diagnosis means not knowing whether they will spend another Christmas together as a family.
That's why our Christmas Party is so important. It's a chance for children undergoing treatment to feel like a child again and forget about cancer for a moment. It is an opportunity to meet survivors, to be swept up in the festive cheer and to feel hopeful for the future - something many of them would have thought impossible a few months before.
This Christmas, Korle Bu and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospitals will be holding celebrations for children on the ward as well as survivors and their families. Help us to give these children a Christmas to remember and wish families in Ghana ‘Afenhyia Pa!’ this December.
A donation of just £6.40 could pay for a child's Christmas present, bringing a smile to a young face despite a year of uncertainty.
All donations will go directly towards giving children with cancer in Ghana a Christmas party to remember.
