Palliative care for rural communities
Joel delivers palliative care to patients at home, reaching them by motorbike to bring healthcare to those who would otherwise struggle to get to the hospital.
Joel Kaah is a nurse working with Banso and Mbingo Baptist hospitals in Cameroon. He specialises in delivering home-based palliative care to patients with cancer and was funded by World Child Cancer to complete his Diploma in Palliative Care to ensure that he has the professional capacity to undertake this challenging work.
Joel provides holistic palliative care for children, comprising pain relief, wound care, advice about side-effects and counselling for families.
He accesses patients' homes using a motorbike funded by World Child Cancer, allowing him to travel more easily around the difficult terrain of rural Cameroon.
