Educating families...

Maria, who is 7 years old, is being treated for leukaemia at a hospital in southern Mexico. Maria's family have struggled with travelling back and forth to the hospital each week for her treatment, which is costing them a large part of their income. There are a few staff in this diverse region trained in providing specialist cancer care or social support for children, and there are limited educational materials for families to learn about treatment.

World Child Cancer is helping by providing mentoring and training for healthcare staff in Mexico, to improve the quality of care available. Educational materials have been developed for parents in several languages, to make sure families like Maria's understand treatments and the importance of attending hospital appointments.
